Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Communication at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Multimedia Journalism. In this role, the hire would teach a variety of courses within the journalism track with an emphasis on multimedia journalism and production. Courses may include news writing, copy editing, new media and publishing, media writing, introduction to mass communication, online journalism, multiplatform reporting, data journalism/visualization, and others course relevant to the applicant's specialty area and departmental needs. The hire will also engage in scholarly research and/or creative activity as well as be an active member in academic advisement and departmental service. An active research agenda, ideally combining journalism with one or more of the following areas is required: social, mobile, digital media and/or the use of virtual reality technologies and video games as storytelling tools in journalism. The Department is open to a variety of methodological approaches.

The successful applicant would also be serving as the faculty advisor for student media and as an academic advisor for Journalism majors, as well as serving on departmental, college, and university committees as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
A terminal degree in journalism, multimedia journalism or related discipline as well as experience in content creation and news production are required.

University-level teaching experience is preferred. The successful candidate should have an established record of teaching at the undergraduate level, 2 to 3 years work experience in the media industry, expertise in teaching a variety of communication courses such as new media, media history, data journalism, new media, mobile media, newsroom management, cross-platform/converged media content creation, international journalism, and qualitative or quantitative research methods, and a commitment to service learning.

The applicant should be familiar with Associated Press guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:
University-level teaching experience preferred. The successful candidate should have an established record of teaching at the undergraduate level, 2 to 3 years work experience in media industry, expertise in teaching a variety of communication courses such as new media, newsroom management, cross-platform/converged media content creation, media history, audio journalism, international journalism, and qualitative or quantitative research methods, and a commitment to service learning.
