Job Summary/Basic Function:
  • Serves as the liaison with the faculty and students in programs of distance education and the Center for Distance Education
  • Works with the Electronic Services Librarian to ensure the availability of effective online access to e-reserves and other aids.
  • Provides quality reference service to a highly diversified patron base of students, faculty, staff and the general public in person and online.
  • Serves at the Reference Desk 2 to 4 hours per week
  • Participates in the Library Instruction program of the Library. These activities could include providing general and specialized library instruction, creating both product and subject guides, and/or instructing a one hour credit course on information literacy
  • Serves effectively as part of the Reference Services management team
  • Stays current with trends in reference and instructional services
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial environment
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills through active participation in library and departmental activities including the ability to work effectively in groups as a member or leader
  • Participates in Collection Development activities of the library
  • Participates in professional activities, professional development, and continuing education
  • Serves on committees as appointed by the Director of Library Services or other University officials or as elected by the Library or University faculty
  • Works primarily week days; evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Performs related duties as required

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited program
    • Second master’s in an appropriate area required for appointment to Assistant Professor

    • Knowledge or course work in reference sources and services

    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Commitment to delivering quality and user-centered reference services
    • Working knowledge of print, electronic, and web based library and information technologies
    • Ability to meet and interact with patrons effectively
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university students, faculty, staff and Library faculty and staff
    • Effective interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Ability to meet the requirements for tenure and promotion
