  General Summary  

The Systems Analyst, Lead will be responsible for integral data and application management projects that support the ongoing operational, management, and strategic decision-making activities of the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) as well as Enrollment Services, all university colleges and IS.     The Systems Analyst will lead and project-manage the technical aspects of implementation processes of new functionalities for as many as 10 systems for OUR. This position will lead the development for scheduled projects, troubleshoot and solve ad-hoc production problems. Additionally, this position will manage data security for OUR and will also be responsible for mandatory federal reporting and extracting data for reports and decision making.  

Responsibilities and Duties    

  • Project manage and lead the technical aspects of system implementation process, including set-up, configuration, maintenance, modifications, and enhancements.

  • Gather and clarify business requirements and perform business systems analysis to successfully translate requirements into technical solutions and plans of action, while insuring proper governance of the university's technology assets and financial resources.  

  • Research, manage and implement projects related to OUR technology, including work in the area of: application development, software testing and deployment.  

  • Oversee and perform upgrades and patch implementation for system software.  

  • Oversee testing on PeopleSoft and other system patches and upgrades. 

  • Conduct system development lifecycle activities for scheduled projects, which may include oversight of external vendor contacts associated with the development and coordination of key mid-level managers in other EM and university departments who will be involved in the work.

  • This work requires the specific skill sets, knowledge and abilities for software being deployed.  

  • These skills include systems validation testing and creating test plans for specific software patches for various upgrades and migration projects with our internal IS department as well as any initiative with external software providers. 

  • Troubleshoot and solve ad-hoc production problems.  

  • Collaborate with Office of the University Registrar(OUR) and/or other Enrollment Management work-groups and IS developers on systemic production problems and document production problems for future reference.  

  • Serve as the OUR technical expert and internal consultant to college offices including their directors and associate deans.  

  • Determine project priorities and deliver system enhancements based on identified functional needs.  

  • Responsible for the scheduling, maintenance and management of OUR batch processes.

  • Document production processes and produce training materials that create a library of procedures and help guides for all technical process.

  • Update documents with any modifications that take place and update test scenarios for each customization.

  • Manage data security for OUR:

  • Oversee the creation, assignment, and take responsibility for appropriate OUR security, according to staff and faculty position descriptions, maintaining compliance based on federal privacy laws (FERPA).  

  • Manage the on-going development and enhancement of security access to the student information systems with emphasis on improving the customer experience.

  • Regularly audit accuracy and utility of data, table entries, and coding in the system.

  • Perform other duties as assigned related to security and access. 

  • Manage and report project management outcomes to the Senior Director.  

  • Execute writing/updating ad hoc data queries and reports (averaging 15-20/week of various size and complexity) on live production data to enable management decision-making.  

  • Oversee the development  and dissemination of reports for divisional reporting and research needs.

  • Assist management in extracting data from student information systems, using query tools within multiple databases and be responsible for mandatory federal reporting to the National Student Clearinghouse of enrollment and degree information.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

    Education & Experience  

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory or managerial experience required.

  • 7-10  years experience working in a technology field.

  • Professional knowledge of student procedures and regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions.

  Preferred Requirements  

  • Master's degree in relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years working databases and student systems.

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in Higher Education, preferably in Student Records/Registrar. .

  • Extensive experience with PeopleSoft Student Administration Systems.

  • Knowledge of relational database systems.

  • Database management and query-writing experience.

  • Client and vendor management experience.

  • Familiarity and ability to explain and interpret technical terminology and applications to non-technical users.

  Managerial responsibilities  

  • Following general agreed upon goals for the department, the systems analyst will execute independent decision making.  

  • Supervise and lead 4 full-time employees as part of a technology team.
