Responsibilities

The Director will be the chief academic and administrative officer for the Center, reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and will hold a 12-month faculty position either tenure track or non-tenure track. The Director will be responsible for working with the Florida State University faculty and administration to foster excellence in research, educational, and outreach programs for undergraduate students while strengthening its core roles within the University. The Director will be responsible for the management of the human and fiscal resources of the Center, and will work in conjunction with the Center for Undergraduate Research & Academic Engagement Faculty Advisory Committee to develop strategic plans to enhance undergraduate research, entrepreneurship, and innovation opportunities for students. The Director will work closely with the FSU University Honors, the Office of National Fellowships (ONF), and the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE) to engage and support students from across the campus. The Director will work with the Dean of Undergraduate Studies to foster strong working relationships with faculty and alumni, and will serve as the primary advocate of the Center, both internally and externally. The new Honors, Scholars, Fellows House provides an opportunity for the Director to foster relationships with the Graduate School in order to better prepare students for advanced studies. As a University leader, the Director will participate actively in University planning, implementation, and assessment efforts, while promoting diversity of faculty, students and staff within the department. Most importantly, the Director will have a commitment to excellence and a clear vision of the role and significance of undergraduate research, academic engagement, entrepreneurship, and innovation within a large public research University.

Qualifications

An earned Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization, or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for promotion to the rank of Instructional Specialist II. A demonstrated record of academic leadership, integrity, and administrative experience. A demonstrated passion for working directly with students, and a record of successful student mentorship. Evidence of successful advocacy for student achievement. Administrative experience relevant to the management of a comprehensive research program. The ability to articulate the Center's interests to constituents, as well as demonstrated success in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships, particularly with initiatives that support and recognize the accomplishments of high-achieving students.

Preferred

An earned doctorate or terminal degree. Qualifications commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor at Florida State University. The creative thinking, leadership skills, and experience necessary to engage the campus community in maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence in an atmosphere of trust and collegiality. Broad managerial skills and experience, including a proven record of sound fiscal and interpersonal management acumen. Demonstrated breadth of success in multiple areas including research, teaching, and service. The commitment, entrepreneurial, and fund-raising skills needed to foster the growth and supporting infrastructure of the academic, research and creative enterprise. A record of promoting diversity and inclusion among faculty, staff, and students, with evidence of successful interactions with diverse populations.
