The Communications Specialist manages the planning, design, and production of Graduate School communications materials including printed media, electronic media, social media, and signage.

Duties include:
• Interact with UM central communications to lead the revision of the Graduate School website to conform to the new University template.
• Responsible for content posted to the Graduate School’s website. Ensure that website content is accurate and up-to-date.
• Responsible for content posted to the Graduate School’s social medial accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) after first consulting with the Director of Education.
• Promote Graduate School policies, procedures, and events via print and electronic media.
• Develops, manages, and implements a comprehensive communications plan based on analysis and interpretation of the Graduate School needs.
• Plans, develops, designs, and manages strategic, and occasionally time-sensitive, communication projects and initiatives.
• Works with the Director of Education in the Graduate School to determine the need for various marketing materials, including brochures, videos, newsletters, flyers, invitations, posters, banners, awards, e-Veritas announcements, web announcements and instructional pieces.
• Designs and produces digital and print marketing materials.
• Researches, writes, and edits relevant and current contented tailored for electronic and print media. Focuses on promotion of office services when generating communication materials.
• Drafts press releases for the Graduate school and coordinates their delivery to UM Media Relations.
• Generates and utilizes surveys to measure effectiveness of marketing materials. Generates and utilizes surveys to measure effectives of and student satisfaction with Graduate School events.
• Works with the UM Department of Institutional Research to request lists as needed. Provides periodic updates to maintain and update accurate lists.
• Manages and monitors all of the Graduate School listserv accounts. Ensures the accuracy of individuals appointed to each listserv.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
• Strong conceptual skills and excellent interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to manage several projects/tasks at the same time.
• Ability to adhere to deadlines and work under pressure.

Education and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of relevant work experience required.
• Knowledge of social media platforms, Adobe Fireworks, Dreamweaver, and Reader are preferred.
