University of Miami in Miami, FL is seeking a Licensing Associate to be responsible for assessing invention disclosures from faculty for patentability and providing feedback to faculty on patent process. Managing ongoing portfolio of technologies including, pre disclosure, disclosed, provisional applications, full applications, published patents, pending licenses, options. Managing costs of all technologies in their portfolio including patenting process costs and all types of revenues from licensed technologies; and performing other duties within the scope of the position, as assigned.

Position requires a Bachelor’s in Bioengineering, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or Biotechnology and 3 years of relevant experience. Position requires 1 year of specific experience in the following areas: drafting and negotiating license agreements within a University/non-profit institution; performing preliminary regulatory assessments; business model analyses and design; ability to perform technical feasibility and competitive landscape analyses; performing market analyses; performing preliminary patentability assessments; and new venture creation. Position requires working knowledge of Intellectual Property Law- including Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, Trade Secrets. This must be demonstrated by the applicant providing at least one example where they were directly involved in the decision making process surrounding a patent, a copyright, a trademark and a trade secret. The position also requires working knowledge of FDA regulatory pathways. This must be demonstrated by the applicant providing at least one example where they were directly involved in the decision making process surrounding a IND/NDA pathway, a 510(k) pathway, and a PMA pathway.
