The department of Health, Behavior, and Society within the College of Public Health is seeking a tenured Professor as a Department Chair. The selected individual will be expected to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students throughout the College and with other colleges within the University. In addition, this position will be viewed nationally as a senior leader complementing and expanding existing departmental and College strengths, including cancer prevention and control, community-based interventions, dissemination and implementation science, practice-based research, and/or health disparities research. The selected individual will maintain an active research program with extramural support from NIH, CDC, health-related foundations, and/or other funding sources. Further, the selected individual will teach and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and professional students primarily in the College, and others as appropriate. In addition, creating and/or adapting curriculum in support of College and department strategic directions is expected.

Position Duties and Responsibilities include:
1. Act in accordance with the College of Public Health by-laws as they apply to the chair role as the lead for departmental program implementation.
2. Foster faculty planning and development, including mentorship of junior faculty.
3. Maintain a strong extramurally-supported research program focused on a topical area and/or research methodology that complements and expands existing department and College research areas.
4. Grow and guide the current extramurally-supported research portfolio of the department.
5. Serve as a resource to local, state, and national public health practice communities.
6. Teach and mentor undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

Required Related Experience

1. Extensive leadership experience in conducting public health and health behavior-related research.
2. Significant history of extramural research support and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
3. Extensive leadership experience (at the level of full professor) in developing and guiding academic programs; for example, supporting development of a PhD program.
4. Demonstrated experience in faculty mentorship, particularly of junior faculty.
5. Proficiency in developing and leading multidisciplinary research and service teams.
6. Experience and credibility in working with public health leaders in the practice community.
7. Demonstrated teaching and mentoring excellence at the graduate and professional student level. Undergraduate teaching experience also desired.
8. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
