Director of Sponsored Programs Administration
The University of Mississippi (UM) is seeking a highly motivated individual to provide leadership, support and strategic direction for the Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) activities of its Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP). Working in conjunction with other ORSP groups, i.e., Technology Management, Research Integrity and Compliance, Research Development, as well as the Office of Accounting, the SPA Director works to ensure integrated research management and service to UM faculty and staff. The position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of proposal preparation and submission, negotiation of award terms and conditions, and compliance with administrative and fiscal award terms, as well as identifying and resolving issues throughout the life cycle of an award. The position represents UM to governmental, foundation, industry and other funding agencies and assists in the development and implementation of research administration policies and procedures. The position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Sponsored Programs and supervises a staff of 8-10 professionals. The successful candidate must understand federal and state regulations as they pertain to research administration at an institution of higher learning; be knowledgeable of the Uniform Guidance and the Federal Acquisition Regulations; be experienced in negotiating grants, contracts and subawards; and be well versed in the electronic proposal submission and award management tools of major funding agencies. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
The minimum qualifications for this position are a Master’s Degree in Administration, Science or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university, and five (5) years of experience related to the described duties. The successful candidate must hold the designation of Certified Research Administrator from the Research Administrators Certification Council.
