Primary Function of Organization Unit: The textile operations group is the computing, learning technologies, and media services support mechanism for all faculty, staff, students and visitors for the renowned College of Textiles at NC State University. Services provided include Tier 1 and Tier 2 Helpdesk support, course development, web development, application packaging and support, and many other services that encompassed by information technology. The group supports over 1000 computing devices within the college including desktops, laptops, servers, and mobile devices. This group also supports the technology infrastructure for specialty machines and instruments.
Essential Job Duties: The Assistant Director of TCO is responsible for all aspects related to management and oversight of the computing and learning environments at the College of Textiles. The TCO staff represent a team of six high performing professionals who serve the College on a variety of technology needs from tier 1 desktop support to advanced programming of world class equipment in specialized textile labs. As the Systems Administrator the incumbent is responsible for installing, maintaining and supporting specialized client software for the faculty, staff and students for the College of Textiles and its customers. They are required to work with vendors to develop customized solutions to work within the active directory environment at NC State. They are also responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining server infrastructure for the specialized applications. The analyst is responsible for interacting with customers to ascertain how the software must be configured to meet the pedagogical needs of the curriculum that uses the given software. The analyst must also be able to note trends in technical usage that may merit the reconfiguration of the software so that it continues to meet the needs of the customer. The analyst is also a partner on enterprise wide active directory implementation. They must be able to write system level scripts that can be utilized by all computers on the active directory domain within the enterprise. The analyst must be able to leverage the System Center Configuration Manager solution to package and deploy complex software to any college supported computer and develop packages when needed that can be used anywhere in the enterprise. The analyst must also be able to assess contractual agreements for software licenses with the office of general counsel so that appropriate software can be negotiated and purchased from the specialized textile vendors.
