Position Summary: The North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (NC AHEC) Program is one of 48 states with an AHEC Program. AHEC provides educational programs and services that extend academic resources to communities to improve the health of the people of NC. A major focus is health care workforce development, with attention to rural and undeserved communities. The Assistant Director for Operations & Planning - Reports directly to Associate Director for Administration & Finance; member of the senior leadership team - Supervises up to four administrative support staff - Provides financial planning & monitors strategic plan & implementation - Primary contact for internal office operations & represents the AHEC Program to campus, statewide & national partners - Must be able to articulate & implement the mission, vision, and values of the NC AHEC Program - Has a comprehensive understanding of administrative, financial & institutional policies on the UNC Chapel Hill campus and at 10 AHEC sites across the state Project Management & Leadership - Provide day-to-day leadership & management of internal operations. Facilitate information & communication between AHEC Program Office staff & 10 AHEC Centers. Independent judgment in evaluating situations & making decisions. Manage annual program planning process. Budget Management and Contract Administration - Manage the annual budgeting process & all contracts & agreements. AHEC Liaison with UNC General Counsel. Supervision - Organize workflow & supervise administrative support staff to manage assignments from the senior leadership team. AHEC Liaison with Human Resources. Program Evaluation/Strategic Imperatives - Participate with senior leadership on evaluation of program outcomes. Monitor key performance indicators to meet national, statewide, & university reporting requirements & advocacy efforts. Oversee projects to support strategic imperatives. Collaborate with IT resources to build multi-purpose self-service data visualizations.
Education Requirements: Master's degree preferred in public health, public policy, or related health care area. A Bachelor's degree will be accepted for candidates who have a demonstrated record of substantial relevant experience in health education, program planning, or health administration. Education or significant experience in Accounting or Finance in financially complex organization is required. Degree(s) must be from an accredited University.
Qualification and Experience: - Three or more years of supervisory experience in health education, program planning, or health administration is required, preferably within a university or highly complex institutional setting. - Comprehensive knowledge of the mission of the NC AHEC Program. - Previous university financial administration; experience with state and federal funds expense guidelines and knowledge of cost accounting principles. - Experience as part of a work team. - Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. - Politically astute and possess attributes of good judgement and tact - Demonstrated experience working as an effective team member. - Strategic thinker with ability to work independently yet collaboratively. - Implement creative solutions to advance the work of AHEC. - Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail within prescribed deadlines. - Ability to work well with a wide variety of organizations. - Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service and responsiveness to customers/stakeholders. - Demonstrated experience in developing staff. - Ability to initiate and drive complex projects to completion. - Demonstrated ability to independently interpret and apply policies. - Ability to gather, synthesize and interpret data and information for reporting purposes. - Advanced skills in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, including MS Office and database programs. - High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
