Job Description Summary    

The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure and ensures that system hardware, operating and software systems, and related procedures adhere to university values and policies.

The System Administrator will assist project teams with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of new systems implementations. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.

Job Description    

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide timely resolution for integration-related production issues, including root cause analysis. Engineering of related solutions for various project and operational needs. {Hardware installation, System builds outs, installation of software, etc.) Install and configure new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures while maintaining system standards. Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host resources. Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging new technologies in Florida Polytechnic's environment. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system, security and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs. Create and maintain documentation as it relates to systems configuration, mapping, processes, and service records. Join On-Call Rotation team for 24x7 Operational Support and Issue Resolution. Other duties as assigned.  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting: Windows Servers, llS, Apache, Tomcat, Firewall, Certificates, Security and Active Directory. Experience with Application Administration: installing, configuring, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting all types of enterprise applications. Extensive application support experience with Windows operating systems, Windows Clusters, MS SQL Server, SCCM, SMTP, DNS, DHCP, Group Policies, and overall Active Directory Domain Management. Experience with VMWare or Hyper-V server virtualization. Experience with Office 365 including administration and configuration. Scripting knowledge (preferably Windows PowerShell and/or VB Script). Experience with disk based FCOE or iSCSI Enterprise storage SAN and NAS. Programming experience in any of the following languages is a helpful: Python, ASP.Net C, C# or C++ Ability to work alone or in a group on projects that take from days to months. Ability to seek out and learn new skills and document processes and tasks while sharing experiences with co-workers. Knowledge and ability to use time management techniques to prioritize tasks in a rapidly changing environment to meet competing deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse customer base as part of a well-performing Team. Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication skills, both in person and in writing. Flexibility and creativity in delivering objectives. Ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in an information technology, quantitative, scientific, or STEM related field or Master's degree in an information technology, quantitative, scientific, or related field. 3-5 years of recent and relevant experience in Windows Server administration and Windows application support. Good understanding of systems architecture, user administration, general data networking, general data structures, scripting, integration techniques, and configuration of systems is required.  

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW:

Must possess a valid driver’s license. This position requires a criminal background check. This position is subject to federal and state privacy regulations.  

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.   Occasional overtime (weekends and evenings) may be required.

EXPECTED STARTING SALARY:  $57,000 - $62,000/year; commensurate with experience.
