Job Description
A post-doctoral position in the Nuclear Engineering Program in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of South Carolina with expertise in advanced modeling and simulation of complex oxide and non-oxide systems, potentially utilizing first principles and CALPHAD calculations. The Fellow will perform modeling calculations for materials systems of interest for nuclear fuels and wastes to develop thermochemical representations. Additionally, the research will be supported by experimental efforts on thermochemical and thermophysical measurements, such as TGA/DSC, XRD, and microanalysis and the ability to learn the use of these instruments may be required. Duties are : 1) Perform assessment and first principles calculations for chemical systems of interest 50%; 2) Perform experimental measurements of thermochemical/thermophysical properties of systems of interest 20%; 3) Manage research laboratory activity and assist graduate students.10%; 4) Prepare manuscripts for presentation and publication in professional journal and research reports 10%; 5) Prepare and assist in the preparation of research proposals 5%; and 6) Conduct literature searches for technical information.


Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering or other closely related discipline with experience in computational materials modeling.
