The Department of Earth & Physical Sciences at York College/CUNY invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in Environmental Science or Environmental Health Science. York is a four-year CUNY college located in Jamaica, Queens, the most diverse county in the nation. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Environmental Health Science, Environmental Science, or a closely related field (e.g., Environmental Safety, Environmental Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene), postdoctoral experience, and strong interests in undergraduate teaching and in establishing a robust and externally funded research program. Women and people from groups underrepresented in the sciences are highly encouraged to apply.

Our small department supports a broad range of research activity in groundwater hydrology, hard rock geology and petrology, climate change, and experimental particle and astrophysics. The college maintains partnerships with an on-campus facility of the Food and Drug Administration, the Dept. of Environmental Protection, and the Dept. of Mental Health and Hygiene. Our research labs are well equipped with laminar-flow workstations, temperature controlled ovens, and OSHA certified fume hoods, with instrumentation for ion chromatography, nutrients analysis, fluorescence spectrometry, and field tools for sample collection and monitoring. Geology field and laboratory equipment also include US standard sieves and sieve shakers, thin section preparation tools, polishing and grain-mount tools, magnetic separators, a hand-held X-ray fluorescence unit, polarizing microscopes, heavy mineral separation apparatus, topographic survey units, Brunton compasses and GPS units.

In addition to the qualifications outlined in the vacancy announcement section, Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent is required.
