Assistant Professor of Physical Education
Washburn University's Kinesiology Department invites applications for a full-time, 9 month, tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR beginning August 2017. Successful candidate will be committed to providing quality undergraduate education. A completed doctorate is necessary for tenure-track appointment.
Qualifications: The Assistant Professor appointment requires an earned Doctorate (ABD considered) in Physical Education or related field, with a strong background in Elementary and Secondary Methods/Instructional Strategies, Motor Development, Measurement and Evaluation and Curriculum Development. Preference will be given to candidates who are also prepared to teach courses such as Rhythms and Creative Movement and Principles of Coaching, have demonstrated successful teaching at the college/university level and in the public school system, and provide evidence of scholarly research and publications and/or other scholarly activity related to the discipline.*
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach a 12 credit hour load each semester, consistent with his/her training and interests, from the following list of courses: Elementary Physical Education Methods and Instructional Strategies, Secondary Physical Education Methods and Instructional Strategies, Motor Development, Measurement and Evaluation, Adapted Physical Education and Physical Education Activity Techniques. Additional teaching responsibilities may include teaching a Wellness Concepts general education course. Further responsibilities include, but are not limited to: student advisement, supervision of student teachers and being the lead faculty member providing direction for the BEd P-12 Physical Education degree program. Candidate is also expected to engage in scholarly activity appropriate for appointment rank and provide service to the profession, university, community and department.
Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
