Full-Time Lecturer, Spanish/World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures
World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, Spanish – Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Spanish, beginning August 2017. Augustana College is a selective liberal arts college of approximately 2,500 students, most of whom live on a wooded 115-acre campus. Rock Island, Illinois, is part of the Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities along the Mississippi River, a diverse metropolitan area with 400,000 residents, located about three hours west of Chicago and 45 minutes east of Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa.
Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered. Near-native or native fluency in Spanish and English and specialization in Modern Peninsular Studies are required. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching a diverse student body to support the Spanish program and the mission of the college. A commitment to ongoing professional development and a desire to participate in international programs are preferred.
The standard teaching load is eight 3-credit courses per year on a ten-week trimester calendar, consisting of Spanish language courses at all levels, upper-level courses in Modern Peninsular literature and culture, and one general education course for first-year students taught in English annually. The continuing lecturership is renewable, full-time, long-term nontenured faculty position.
