Job Description

The Department of Architectural Studies at the University of Missouri invites applicants for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor rank with an anticipated start date of Fall 2017. We seek candidates with expertise and experience in integrating design and digital media in their research, teaching and creative practice. Applicants from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

The candidate is expected to integrate innovative approaches to using digital media in design studios and lecture courses at the undergraduate level. Successful candidate will also play a prominent role in our graduate emphasis area in design with digital media, leading graduate level seminar courses and supervising graduate projects as well as doctoral dissertations. We encourage applicants whose research area includes design computing and cognition, design representation and advanced visualization techniques. A candidate for this position is expected to pursue a strong research agenda in the area of design with digital media. Candidates are expected to have an awareness of contemporary digital practice in architecture and interior design including advances in building information modeling and digital fabrication.

The University of Missouri and the Department of Architectural Studies encourage interdisciplinary research and current research collaborations involving digital media including those with engineering, fine arts, schools of medicine and journalism among others. The candidate is expected to contribute to further advancing the immersive visualization lab and the design with digital media emphasis area in our graduate program. Professional experience and licensure in architecture or interior design is desirable, but not required of candidates. • Ph.D. degree in architecture, interior design or a related field is required at the start of appointment
• Evidence for potential in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of design with digital media.
• Ability to integrate innovative approaches to using digital media in design studios and lecture courses
• Evidence for potential in contributing to design with digital media scholarship and further advancing the department’s immersive visualization lab and graduate program.


Commensurate with qualifications and experience, based on a nine-month tenure-track appointment.
