The Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University is seeking applications for the Chair of its Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences with appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure or must be tenure eligible. The School is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health with vigorous programs of undergraduate and graduate-level education and research spanning six departments: Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Global Health, Health Policy and Management, and Prevention and Community Health.
The Milken Institute School of Public Health has a diverse and growing faculty and a rapidly growing research portfolio. As the only school of public health in the nation's capital, faculty and students have a unique opportunity to work closely with government agencies as well as the numerous non-governmental and international organizations that are headquartered in DC. The School of Public Health has laboratory facilities in a brand new state of the art Science and Engineering Hall located in the heart of the GWU Foggy Bottom campus. The Exercise and Nutrition Sciences department has two fitness testing facilities, one located in Washington, DC near the Foggy Bottom campus and one in Ashburn, Virginia on GW's Virginia Science and Technology Campus.Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
The mission of the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences is to teach, conduct research, and engage in community-focused public health practice that produces measurable benefits for individuals, communities, and populations. The Department explores the science of how physical activity and nutrition impact human health, prevent disease, and promote wellness and translates that science into practice and policy.
The successful candidate will lead the Department's efforts in external and alumni engagement, will continue to secure extramural research funding and support the endeavors of faculty in this regard, and will represent the Department in governance and service in both the School and University. The Chair will work closely with faculty, staff, and students in supporting the academic, research, and practice missions of the Department.Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have an earned relevant doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, ScD, DrPH, or MD) and have led an accomplished career in a discipline related to exercise or nutrition science. Applicants must demonstrate organizational, management, and leadership skills. Applicants must have achievements commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor (with tenure or must be tenure eligible), including proven accomplishments in education and in scholarship as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and an established record of research funding that has resulted in national and/or international prominence in the field of exercise, nutrition sciences, or a related discipline.
