FSLA Korean Instructor (Limited Term) - Summer 2017

General Summary: The University of North Georgia is seeking applications for a faculty position in two three-week sessions for the Federal Service Language Academy. The FSLA Korean instructor will teach first-year and/or second-year Korean language using the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) in an immersion summer language camp setting. The successful candidate will design active, engaging, communicative lessons for an eight hour day, six day a week immersion camp. These lessons must address students' competencies, knowledge and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading and writing Korean, and assist in appreciating and understanding the culture of the countries where Korean is spoken. The dates of FSLA 2017 Session 1 are June 11-30. The dates for Session 2 are July 9-28.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: The FSLA Korean Instructor will:
  • Teach first-year and/or second-year Korean language using the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).
  • Teach comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing utilizing a communicative approach to language teaching which is compatible with the basic instructional philosophy of the FSLA.
  • Prepare lessons which enhance students' understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where Korean is spoken.
  • Monitor and assess student work.
  • Maintain appropriate student assessment records.
  • Work collaboratively with other FSLA language instructors to design language appropriate activities.
  • Develop and submit lesson plans and a course description.
  • Teach in the target language at least 90 percent of time.
  • Plan a language specific field trip to Atlanta.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Previous teaching experience with a foreign language immersion camp preferred, but not required; Native or near-native Korean proficiency required; Flexible; responsible; multi-tasker; adaptive in a fluid environment; creative; enthusiastic; active; engaged teaching methodology; positive attitude; patient; passionate; high-energy teaching style.

Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • K-12 or post-secondary teaching experience required
  • K-12 or post-secondary teaching experience required
