Postdoctoral Position (Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, Stem Cells, Microfluidics) Physiomimetic Microsystems Laboratory, PI: Ashutosh Agarwal Department of Biomedical Engineering and Department of Pathology University of Miami Miller School of Medicine
One bioengineering postdoctoral fellowship is available for up to three years, with competitive salary and benefits within the Physiomimetic Microsystems Laboratories (www.PMLaboratory.com) of Prof. Ashutosh Agarwal, located in the Life Science and Technology Park (1951 NW 7th Ave #475 Miami FL 33136). The initial contract will be for 12 months and with an option for renewal based on performance review. The position is at the interface of Biomaterials Design and Stem cell engineering. Experience with Microfluidics, Prototype design and fabrication, and MEMS is an added bonus. Research mission of PM Lab is to build micro scale functional mimics of different organ systems for applications such as drug testing, stem cell maturation, and disease modeling for cardiac and cancer applications. Another important focus of the lab isto translate these technologies to the industry so that we can make a positive impact on human health.
We seek a highly motivated individual who is poised to develop biomimetic culture microenvironments for stem cells through novel biomaterial design. The final deliverable is a well validated physiomimetic platform that mimics human pathology and allows real-time non-invasive monitoring of culture health, and automated collection of media samples for offline biochemical analyses. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of this research, a PhD in Biomedical Engineering/Materials Science and Engineering or related fields is required with relevant experiences in Biomaterial design, synthesis and characterization, stem cell differentiation and editing and some familiarity with microfluidics. The highly collaborative research effort is funded by Dr. Agarwal’s NIH grant (1UC4DK104208-01).
