Job Description

The University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, seeks applications for a full time faculty position in Food Supply Veterinary Medicine.


The appointee’s primary focus will be field service and production medicine. An interest in beef cattle is desirable but the position will require some expertise working on all ruminant and camelid species. A minority of time may be dedicated to in-house clinical service. In addition, the successful candidate will:

  • Develop a caseload-based clinical curriculum in beef production medicine;
  • Contribute to a production medicine clinical elective;
  • Interact with the animal-owning public, referring veterinarians, students, commodity groups,
  • extension faculty, animal science faculty, and the Missouri Department of Agriculture;
  • Share with other faculty and house officers in after-hours call;
  • Share responsibility for training veterinary students, interns, residents and graduate students. Opportunities for teaching in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or other areas may be available if the candidate has the appropriate training and interest;
  • Participate in clinical / production based research (non-tenure track-teaching) or develop an independently funded research program related to food supply veterinary medicine (tenure track). Research activity that allows for collaboration and synergism with veterinary medicine, animal science, or other university faculty is encouraged;
  • Didactic teaching, outreach, or administrative service will make up the remainder of the
  • appointment.


Distribution of effort will be based on the successful candidate’s qualifications, career goals, and the needs of the food animal section.




Qualifications

DVM or equivalent degree, eligibility for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Missouri, and Federal Accreditation by the USDA. Diplomate status or eligibility in a specialty relevant to food supply veterinary medicine is desirable. Graduate training is desirable, especially for candidates considering a tenure track position.

Candidates will be assessed based upon educational and professional achievement. Clinical experience, communication skills, experience working effectively in diverse environments, and letters of reference and/or verbal interviews with referees will all be considered in selection of a candidate. The potential for the candidate to work within the framework of the food animal section will also be assessed, as will specialty and/or research training and teaching experience. We are seeking a candidate with interest in practicing up-to-date medicine/surgery and a passion for teaching.
