POSITION DETAILS

The Assistant Dean for Student Development reports to the Vice President for Student Development and is responsible for the following departments within the Division: Career Services; Child and Family Center; Center for Students with Disabilities; and TRIO Programs.

The Assistant Dean will provide administrative, managerial oversight, and leadership to ensure that all departments are following up on the implementation of strategic initiatives, conducting assessment on the delivery of services to students and ensuring that areas obtain goals and objectives that have been established.

The Assistant Dean will collaborate with the Office of Academic Affairs and the Enrollment Management units to implement a Second Year Experience as well as other campus-wide retention activities. In addition, the Assistant Dean will work with the Vice President for Student Development and Public Safety regarding student discipline on the college campus, which may involve Title IX cases. The Assistant Dean will also serve on the President's Cabinet and college-wide committees and represents the Division and the College on designated Central Office committees and task groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. In addition, the following qualifications are required:

A Master's degree and eight (8) years of experience required, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory level or above in an academic or comparable institution. The successful candidate should possess excellent human relation, communications and problem-solving skills. In addition, the candidate should be creative and have the ability to perform under pressure and with minimal supervision. The position requires the ability to work flexible schedule and some evenings and weekends, manage departmental budgets and prepare reports for the Vice-President and/or the College or CUNY if required.
