The Department of Physics of Queens College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in Fall 2017. The position will be in the area of experimental photonics, with particular interest in nanophotonics, nanodevices, nanomaterials, or biophotonics. The Queens College Department of Physics is located in one of the flagship research colleges of CUNY and is part of the CUNY Graduate Center Doctoral Program in Physics. Our department also offers a Professional Science Master's degree in Photonics. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, serving on departmental and college committees, performing departmental administrative tasks as needed. The successful candidate will complement the department's current research strength in condensed matter physics and photonics, be able to utilize research facilities at the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center. The successful candidate will participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and is expected to build independent, externally funded research program. Performs research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
A Ph.D. in Physics or a related area is required and postdoctoral experience is preferred.
Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
