New York City College of Technology, a comprehensive college of 17,000 students in downtown
Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degrees, invites applications for 2 tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor level to begin in the 2017-2018 academic year. The position requires a commitment to teaching, research and other scholarly pursuits, service to the college, and student advisement. Research work with undergraduate students in an area of applied chemical science is strongly encouraged.
A successful candidate will be expected to prepare and present lectures in general chemistry and to develop a new course for advanced undergraduate students. Furthermore, he or she will be expected to develop a research program that will involve undergraduate students and that is likely to receive external funding. City Tech offers opportunity for professional development through collaborations with the larger CUNY community. As a member of the Chemistry department, a successful candidate will provide professional advice and guidance to students and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment in late August 2017, as is demonstrated teaching experience. Postdoctoral or industry experience in a field of applied chemical science is desirable, and strong expertise in chromatography or spectroscopy is most desirable.
Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
