Assistant Professor - Biology
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Natural Sciences at LaGuardia Community College seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty vacancy in Biology at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will be a strongly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a firm commitment to excellence in teaching and research. He or she will be required to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: General Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology. Experience or training in Forensic Science will be an advantage.
The appointee will be expected to participate in developing new courses and improving existing curricula to meet the growing needs of the department and the college. Development of a viable research program and grant writing is expected. Student mentoring in undergraduate research projects is strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in departmental, college-wide and university-wide initiatives. LaGuardia emphasizes excellent teaching in a student-focused environment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and the ability to work with a diverse population.
The successful candidate will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions as may be assigned.

The successful candidate must have an earned a Ph.D. in biology. Experience and/or training in Forensic Science is highly desirable. Teaching experience is also required, preferably at the college level. Excellent communication skills as well as a record of ongoing scholarly achievement are important. The candidate will be required to show demonstrated evidence of successful teaching, scholarship, and the ability to cooperate with others.
