The Department of Mass Communication, Creative, Performing Arts and Speech is an academic department in the School of Liberal Arts and Education at Medgar Evers College. It provides a wide range of interdisciplinary courses in the performing, media and theater arts (art, music, speech, radio, TV, dance, acting and theater crafts). New technologies, innovative material and pedagogies are an integral part of the learners' multi-dimensional scholastic experiences.
The Department of Mass Communications, Creative and Performing Arts and Speech seeks a creative and collaborative faculty member for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Speech Theatre. The successful candidate must have expertise in creating performances as an actor and director. Additional experience in other dimensions of theater-making are highly regarded and expected. Responsibilities include teaching sections of the major core sequence, which combines theory and theater-making, teaching performance at introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels; regularly teaching an advanced seminar in areas of research; advising students; and directing one production per year as part of our Arts Alive Program. The Assistant Professor will perform teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise and share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
The successful candidate must have an earned terminal degree: M.F.A., Ph.D; Ed.D; D.F.A. in acting, directing, or a related area (or a Ph.D. in a related field with evidence of strong artistic work) with a significant record of undergraduate teaching and theater-making in university and professional settings.
Candidates are expected to be excellent teachers in the classroom and laboratory, engaged scholars and artists (regularly working in theater beyond the campus), and active members of the Medgar Evers College community, participating in departmental and college governance and service.Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
