For more information, visit http://www.mills.edu.Job Status: Full-time, Exempt (1.0 FTE)ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:Reports to: Manager of Accounting and Financial Reporting Job Description:Summary of PositionUnder the direction of the Manager of Accounting and Financial Reporting, perform professional accounting functions involving the application of established accounting standards, principles, and practices. Typical functions include account coding, establishing and reconciling control figures for posting and reconciling bank statements, reconciling general ledger accounts.Essential Job Functions• Reconcile bank accounts from general ledger to the bank statement; ensure all debits and credits to the bank accounts are posted to the general ledger; reconcile other accounts to the general ledger.• Reconciliations of all payroll related liability accounts, ensure that all journal entries to said accounts are prepared and posted.• Reconcile loan accounts to ACS report from the general ledger; research the discrepancies and prepare journal entries.• Prepare journal entries for the returned checks and refunds from/to students' accounts, transfers between bank accounts, and reclassification between G/L accounts.• Research, report and remit unclaimed property to the States• Act as a back-up to other employees as needed.Additional Duties and Responsibilities• Establish and maintain effective and productive working relationships within a diverse and multicultural environment.• Establish and maintain an effective customer service orientation towards all persons contacted during the course of job performance.• Maintain safe work conditions and comply with established safety policies, practices, procedures and requirements.• Perform related duties as assigned.Requirements:Minimum RequirementsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of:• Financial, statistical and fiscal record-keeping principles.• Rules and regulations concerning assigned clerical accounting activities.• Preparation, review and control of assigned accounts.• Standard computer software such as Microsoft Excel/Word, etc.• Experience with ERP especially G/L, Banner preferred.Skills/Abilities:• Maintain fiscal records and accounts.• Perform technical accounting work in the preparation, maintenance and review of assigned financial records and accounts.• Assure compliance with applicable College policies, procedures and governmental regulations.• Balance and reconcile accounts.• Prepare bank reconciliations and audit schedules.• Process and record accounting transactions accurately.• Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.• Operate a variety of office equipment and machines such as calculator, computers and related software.• Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.• Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.• Meet schedules and time lines.• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.• Work independently with little direction.Education and Training• Any combination equivalent to: Associate of Arts Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field and four years' experience in general accounting work.Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands• Hearing and speaking to exchange information.• Seeing to read financial documents.• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.• Sitting for extended periods of time.• Office environment.This position description is not intended to contain a comprehensive list of activities, duties, or responsibilities.
