Summary of Duties
The Behavioral Science department at Utah Valley University announces a tenure-track assistant professor position in psychology beginning Fall 2017. This department needs a faculty member who can teach any three of the following courses: behavioral neuroscience, health psychology, psychopharmacology, child development, adolescent development, cognitive psychology, statistics, and research methods. Qualifications include: an earned doctorate in psychology by the start date; evidence of excellence in university teaching; and competence in scholarship and service. Designs, prepares, and teaches courses and delivers content in a meaningful and engaging method with measurable course objectives. Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms through demonstration, discussion, experiential learning, and visual aids. Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, verbal, practical, and performance tests. Maintains a student-oriented approach to education. Advises students during office hours or at other times as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Psychology is required.
Extensive experience teaching psychology undergraduates as well as promoting student retention and success.

Knowledge of subject matter and course content.

Knowledge in the general field of psychology and the pedagogy of psychology.

Knowledge of any three (or more) of the following course content domains: behavioral neuroscience, health psychology, psychopharmacology, child development, adolescent development, cognitive psychology, statistics, and research methods.

Skills in effective instructional strategies and techniques.

Effective interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Skills in modifying course content, developing original course content, and delivering course content in person, online, or in hybrid formats.

Skills in conducting and disseminating original research in publication and presentation format.

Skills in developing, leading, and maintaining committees and work groups.

Ability to manage, motivate, and evaluate students and instruction.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to relate to students in and outside of the classroom.

Ability to facilitate the growth and development of the program.

Ability to maintain a spirit of collegiality with colleagues, students, and administrators even in stressful times.
