I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking Executive Director of Development for the George Washington School of Business (GWSB) which reports to the Assistant Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, GWSB. DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts. DAR seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWUs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

The Executive Director of Development, GWSB provides leadership to GW School of Business, directly manages key development leaders, and advises the Assistant Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations. The Executive Director will serve as an experienced major gift officer and assume direct management of the School's major gift fundraisers. This position works closely with the Assistant Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations (AVP) and Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) central staff to develop and execute a sustainable development program that will broaden GWSB's and GW's base of support.

This positon directly manages the GWSB major gift officers, provides direction and professional development opportunities for its staff and provides operation leadership in the absence of the AVP. In addition to managing GWSB gift officers, the Executive Director of Development will manage a portfolio of 80-90 of GWSB's top major and principal gift prospects and is actively involved in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of top-tier GWSB prospects. The Executive Director will also conduct 8-10 monthly prospect visits; and coordinate the development of plans and strategies of the major gift team in support of the School's philanthropic priorities.

The Executive Director of Development, GWSB provides direct support to the dean and leadership volunteers as needed, including but not limited to producing and sharing briefing materials, accompanying on donor visits, and drafting proposals and correspondence.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree preferred. Five years of progressive experience in institutional advancement in higher education. Demonstrated ability to manage major gift officers and support staff. Demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting gifts at the six and seven figure level. Exceptional communication skills and outstanding writing competencies with an attention to detail.

Experience in prospect management/tracking, developing and executing prospect strategies that have led to successful gift solicitations of $100,000 or more. Desire and ability to work as part of a team and willingness to collaborate with stakeholders across campus. Ability to work some evenings and weekends. Ability to travel domestically, and possibly internationally, for prospect visits and events.
