Summary of Department: The Infrastructure Team provides core services and infrastructure for the college's information systems. The team promotes student success by ensuring the college's digital information, technology services and enterprise systems are strategically planned, implemented, tested and supported to meet the technology needs of students, staff, and faculty.

Summary of Position: The Systems Engineer position is responsible and/or involved with recommending, designing, implementing, supporting, managing and troubleshooting enterprise-level applications and services as well as the underlying technologies that may include database, storage systems, internet services and authentication technologies. These information systems improve the college's technology services while aligning with the college's mission and goals.
The Systems Engineer position reports to the Director of the Infrastructure Team and works collaboratively with members of the Infrastructure Team and broader IT division.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Proficiency with supported versions of Microsoft Windows Server
  • Work closely with colleagues in IT Services to design, implement, manage and support services
  • Schedule and prioritize multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, on schedule and within budget
  • Work independently and as a member of a team serving users' needs
  • Resolve incidents and conduct root cause analysis of critical outages
  • Integrate enterprise level software and hardware services/systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of general networking equipment and services
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Ability to work and learn in a flexible way that allows for interruptions and changes in priorities
  • Work with campus personnel to resolve incidents and problems
  • Write documentation, either independently or collaboratively
  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping and/or climbing
  • Work using a computer for 8 or more hours a day
  • Lifting and carrying heavy objects up to 45 lbs
  • Willing to work a schedule which may involve being on call during evenings and weekends

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Five years experience providing technical support
  • Two years enterprise level experience in information technology such as consulting, analyzing, designing, installing and/or maintaining computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or network infrastructure equipment
  • Comfortable supporting a wide range of products and technologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

 
Desired Qualifications:
 

  • Experience with Load Balancing (F5 LTM devices preferred)
  • Experience with SAN storage solutions (NetApp preferred)
  • Experience with Enterprise Backups
  • Proficient with Microsoft SQL Administration
  • Experience with IIS Administration/Configuration
  • Experience with Linux Servers
  • Experience with Scripting/Automation
  • Experience with Office 365 Administration
