The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at University Health Network (UHN) is inviting applications for the position of Vascular Surgeon Scientist. This appointment is for a three-year term with continuing annual appointment after passing the three year review.

The effective date of this appointment is July 1st 2014, or shortly thereafter.

The Division seeks a vascular surgeon with a strong track record in research who can develop an independent research program in the area of aortic wall biology, with a focus on both degenerative and inherited connective tissue diseases of the aortic wall. Experience with animal models of aortic disease is also desired. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be expected to have expertise in endovascular and open vascular interventions for aortic aneurysms and peripheral arterial disease. Responsibilities will include outpatient clinic, elective and emergency management of vascular patients at UHN and its affiliated sites. Expertise and excellence in teaching at all levels is expected.

The successful candidate should ideally possess strong leadership skills, a track record of grant submission and manuscript publication. The candidate should be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto and should be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or its equivalent, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The Division of Vascular Surgery at Toronto General Hospital, is located in downtown Toronto and is part of University Health Network (UHN). UHN is comprised of the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and is one of Canada's largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. UHN is an academic institution affiliated with the University of Toronto and is recognized internationally for excellence in patient care, innovation, research and education. The Division is a core component of the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and provides comprehensive elective and emergency care for patients in Toronto and the surrounding region. The Division of Vascular Surgery is comprised of seven full-time clinical faculty members, within multiple UHN Programs, offering clinical care in a broad range of vascular care including aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease, venous disease, arterio-venous malformations, thoracic outlet syndrome, pediatric vascular surgery and vascular surgical oncology.

Salary will be between the range of (e.g. $196,867 - $400,000), as well as commensurate with qualifications and experience.
