COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA STUDIES—ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, TENURE TRACK
Reinhardt University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as an assistant professor in
Communication and Media Studies with an emphasis in Strategic Communication, to begin in August, 2017. Our Communication and Media Studies program, serving approx. 60 student majors, reflects a philosophy of digital storytelling across media within an intercultural context. Classes are generally small (10-20) and interactive, with close ties between student and professor.
Candidates should possess a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field, as well as a strong commitment to teaching excellence in the liberal arts and a promising scholarly agenda. Experience in undergraduate-level teaching and professional activity in strategic communication (including advertising, public relations, and/or journalism) are desired.
We seek an active and dynamic teacher well versed in both media theory and practice who possesses the ability to integrate the professional aspects of digital media storytelling within a liberal arts context, teaching in a core that emphasizes integrated writing, design, research and professional skills rooted in knowledge of history, theory, industry practices and global awareness. In addition to providing core courses for all CMS majors (including students in an interdisciplinary Digital Media Arts B.F.A. program), the candidate might also serve as the primary faculty member guiding the PR/Advertising concentration (B.A.), coordinator for Internships; and/or advisor to the student online news site. The ability to work as part of a team to cover the needs of a growing and transforming department at a small university is essential.
The candidate should be able to teach a broad range of courses in areas such as: media writing and journalism, public communication, public relations, advertising, research methods, social media theory, media law & ethics, organizational communication, transmedia strategies, integrated multimedia storytelling. Curriculum needs shift over time as opportunities for new courses arise and courses are on rotations.
In addition to teaching 12 credit hours (4 courses) per semester, all faculty members at Reinhardt advise students; engage in creative and/or scholarly activities; and provide service to the department, campus, and community.
