Manage a team of system engineers and administrators supporting core administrative and academic based systems that are critical for campus operations. Lead process definition, and the development of standards and procedures to ensure repeatable processes that enable highly available core systems. Provide supervision and guidance to staff to ensure appropriate workload and assignments for operational task success. Provide leadership towards transition to new technologies, cloud-based services, in coordination with other IT units.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Manage systems engineers to optimize server and storage capacity with new technology and improved efficiency while meeting growing demands for server deployment and expanding storage requirements.
Manage a group of system administrators supporting Linux and Windows servers and storage to meet campus needs for operational processing and productivity solution.
Lead and guide the development and delivery of a campus-wide software deployment process.
Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure reliable and efficient systems operations.
Optimize the Systems Operations support processes, integrating SPO’s within the ITSM framework and in coordination with IT Services.
Coordinate with and provide systems service to other IT units (Info Sec, EIS, ATC, Research Computing and Network Operations/Telecomm); collaborate with IT team members to meet goals and projects.
Ensure that systems are in compliance with regulatory requirements and that systems are patched and secured, and data is backed up to protect WPI digital assets.
Define, measure and report system performance and system availability.

Position Requirements Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related experience.
Minimum 5 years of IT technical staff management experience.
Experience with Linux and Windows servers and workstation deployment and operations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to communicate successfully with faculty, students and staff. Must have the ability to communicate and work with people of all levels of technical ability.
Familiar with storage and virtualization technologies.
Willingness to occasionally work outside of the normal business hours to respond to critical system outages.
