RESEARCH SPECIALIST B
Duties: To perform vaccine studies for prevention and treatment of genital herpes in animal models (mice and guinea pigs) and to do in vitro assays to assess antibody and T cell responses to immunization and to measure viral DNA levels in genital secretions and nervous system tissues. The individual will be expected to plan complex experiments to be performed in animal models, and to harvest neuronal tissues and other body structures at the end of the study. The individual hired will serve as the lab manager for the lab.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree and 1- 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Masters preferred. Someone with 5 or more years of lab experience preferred. Experience working with herpes simplex virus or other viruses strongly preferred. Willingness to work with mice and guinea pigs is required. Prior experience working with mice and/or guinea pigs strongly preferred. The individual will be expected to be proficient at harvesting neuronal tissues and other body structures. Applicants with prior publications in biomedical science preferred. Experience doing molecular cloning and PCR is strongly preferred. Experience working with viruses in cell culture strongly preferred. Willingness to supervise graduate students and post-doctoral students preferred.
