Position Summary: The Director of Development for Surgery will dedicate his/her time to the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gifts to advance the Surgery campaign for UNC Health Care and UNC School of Medicine. This position will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors at the major gift level of $75k and more; Create a strategic comprehensive development plan for alumni and grateful family support through planned gifts, major gifts, and leadership annual giving; Maintain an active pipeline of UNC Health Care and UNC School of Medicine qualified prospects and donors; Coordinate with UNC Health Care and UNC School of Medicine faculty physician champions on priority programs and strategically solicit gifts for these programs; Engage and motivate donors, volunteers, faculty, administrators and staff at events and activities as appropriate; Plan fundraising and stewardship events, particularly as they relate to major gift prospects and donors; Foster collaborative pan-university development efforts between UNC Medicine and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Inc.

Education Requirements: A Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred.

Qualification and Experience: REQUIRED: Minimum of five or more years experience in comprehensive fundraising including major gifts. Strong verbal and written communications skills. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and judgement. Attention to detail and accuracy. Creativity and problem-solving capabilities. Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel. Local, regional and national travel and some weekend work are required. PREFERRED: Familiarity with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or other higher education institutions.
