Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:
Teach credit courses offered by Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) to students with disabilities. Course offerings may include classes such as:Academic Success Strategies for Students with Disabilities (DSPS-30) Memory Strategies for Students with Disabilities (DSPS-31) Technology for Students with Learning Disabilities (DSPS-32) Strategies for Success in Math for Students with Disabilities (DSPS-33)
Determine accommodations for students with disabilities, including accommodations involving technology.
Interpret and use medical information as it relates to determining educational limitations and providing appropriate accommodations
Notify professors of approved accommodations
Review and assess appropriateness of available software to meet the technology needs of students to improve academic success
Use assessment instruments and techniques, as appropriate, to determine appropriate accommodations for students. Assessments may address educational skills and deficiencies in areas such as cognition, language, fluency, and verbal articulation
Provide academic interventions and support in the DSPS Accessible Technology Center (ATC).
Meet with students seeking academic assistance at the ATC for scheduled appointments and drop-in visits as needed
Provide instruction and assistance related to the effective use of various technologies available in the ATC to improve math skills, language proficiency, and cognitive functioning
Assess student progress towards meeting personally identified goals related to ATC instruction
Serve as a campus liaison for students with dyscalculia.
Collaborate with the math department and DSPS counselors regarding students with significant limitations in mathematical skills resulting from an identified disability
Make recommendations regarding appropriate accommodations and the likelihood of student success in math classes when provided with appropriate accommodations
Make recommendations regarding students for whom consideration of a math substitution is indicated
Meet general expectations for full time faculty members.
Attend faculty meetings, participate in curriculum development efforts, serve on campus committees, participate in program evaluations and other departmental activities and events
Assist in the growth and success of diverse students through careful preparation of course materials, effectively using teaching methods, and providing feedback on assignments and coursework
Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees
Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract
Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities:
Minimum Qualifications/Education & Experience:
A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
1. Masters degree in the category of disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling AND fifteen (15) semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability, to include, but not be limited to:
Deaf and hearing impaired;
Physical disabilities; or
Adapted computer technology.
2. California Community College credential, Valid for Life (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.)
B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
C. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

License(s) & Other Requirements:
The incumbent may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California drivers license.

Conditions of Employment:
This is a full-time, tenure-track, 11-month contract position that begins in the 2017-18 academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9.
Official offers of employment are made by Mt. San Antonio College Human Resources and are made contingent upon Board approval. It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been live scanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for live scan services shall be borne by the candidate.

A committee will evaluate applications, taking into account breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. The number of vacancies is dependent on student enrollment, College resources, needs, and Board of Trustees approval. TRAVEL POLICY: Costs associated with travel in excess of 150 miles one way from residence for the purpose of an interview will be reimbursed up to $500 maximum.
