Job Description Summary

A tutor's overall objective is to support the department's goal of providing students with supplemental academic support. Note: we are seeking individuals in the areas of 1.) English, 2.) Math, and 3.)The "hard' Sciences.



Job Responsibilities

• A tutor's overall objective is to support the department's goal of providing students with supplemental academic support by:
- Providing one-to-one and small group tutoring
- Developing and implementing non-credit workshops
- Conducting "class visits" and assisting in publicizing services
- Assisting in the maintenance of records
- Completing all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines
- Assisting in the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials
• Since effective functioning of the department depends upon "teamwork", tutors are expected to:
- Exhibit a positive acceptance of supervision, direction, and suggestions for improvement
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Act in such a manner that is supportive of and consistent with College policies and departmental goals, objectives and procedures
- Interact with others in a way that is respectful of individual differences
- Assist in orienting new staff members
- Become familiar with departmental handbook



Required Qualifications

• Education, experience/training consistent with department needs
• Demonstrated knowledge of subject matter in any of the following areas:
o English
o Mathematics
o Sciences
• Computer application knowledge
• Strong written and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere through:
- Professional decorum and appearance
- Ethical and professional conduct
- Promptness
- Courtesy and tact
- Respect for the College community
- Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population

• Tutoring experience



Work Schedule

Schedule varies based on the needs of the department. Flexible schedule (days, evenings, weekends). Supervisor will work with selected candidate to set a schedule designed to support the demands of the department.
