Required Qualifications:
Masters degree from an ALA accredited program; knowledge of archival processing standards, including arrangement and description and the preparation of finding aids; familiarity with DACS, EAD, AACR2/RDA and other descriptive standards; knowledge or ability to learn collection management databases, including Archivists Toolkit, ArchivesSpace, and Sierra and specific applications including Omeka, DSpace, Gato, LibGuides; ability to communicate clearly and effectively; ability to work independently and collaboratively to contribute to a positive and efficient work environment; strong commitment to customer service; ability to perform physical activities associated with the archival environment including handling fragile and rare materials.

Preferred Qualifications:
Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA) certification or working toward certification.

Job Description:
The Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University is seeking an Assistant Archivist to join our University Archives team. Under the direction of the University Archivist and Records Manager, this position assists with the daily operations of the University Archives, with an emphasis on making materials available to researchers.

Job Duties:
Arrange, describe, and rehouse materials according to archival standards. Create database records, finding aids, and prepare information for library catalog records. Promote accessibility to materials and assist with patron requests for reference and research. Manage the day-to-day physical location of archival materials, including moving materials to and from the Archives & Research Center (ARC) to meet department and patron needs. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department. Engage in professional activities in accordance with Texas State Universitys standards for promotion for professional librarians and curators.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Advancement in rank is available through the Librarian/ Curator Career Ladder. Available ranks include Assistant Librarian, Associate Librarian, and Librarian. Benefits include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program. No state or local income tax.
