Associate Professor, Human Development & Family Studies

Position Summary: The Department of Human Development and Family Studies at The University of Alabama is seeking an Associate Professor level candidate who has a strong record of research in areas related to addiction science. 1. Research: Conduct research in his/her area of expertise, including supervising student theses, involving students in research, publishing papers and submitting grants. 2. Teaching: Teach two courses per semester, advise students, and be involved in academic programming at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the field of addiction science. 3. Service: Serve on selected departmental, college and/or institutional committees and/or provide service to his profession (e.g., review journal articles, serve on Editorial boards)
Minimum Preferred Qualifications: 1. Doctoral degree in in Human Development and Family Studies, Developmental Psychology, Developmental Neuroscience, or related discipline. 2. Qualifications to be employed at the associate professor level. 3. Strong record of scholarship that has included external funding. 4. Potential to or previous experience mentoring graduate students and/or undergraduate students in research. 5. Previous teaching experience. The College of Human Environmental Sciences is comprised of five interdisciplinary departments that are united through a common focus on life span development within context. The College has a long history of multidisciplinary scholarly activity and service implemented through the constituent departments: Clothing, Textile and Interior Design; Consumer Sciences; Health Science; Human Development and Family Studies; and Human Nutrition and Hospitality Management. The Department of Human Development and Family Studies includes a vibrant and productive faculty, a robust undergraduate program (Adolescent Development, Child Life, Early Childhood Education, Family Studies, and General Human Development), and offers graduate programs in three specializations: Human Development and Family Studies (thesis track), Marriage and Family Therapy, and Parent and Family Life Education. The department is housed in the Child Development Research Center, a state-of-the-art, 64,000 sq-ft research facility that comprises department affiliated agencies and programs, including the Capstone Family Therapy Clinic, the Child Development Resources, the Children's Program- a NAEYC accredited lab school, and the Alabama Quality Rating and Improvement System.
