The Department of English invites candidates holding the rank of Associate or Full Professor to apply for the inaugural Stephen E. King Chair in Literature honoring the department’s most celebrated graduate. The successful applicant should be a scholar with a national reputation in literary studies and a dedicated, effective teacher. The tenured position includes a substantial operating budget to support activities that advance excellence in the study and appreciation of literature as well as the humanities. Qualifications include a PhD in English or a closely related field. A record of engagement in the public humanities is preferred. Applicants with expertise in Early Modern and/or Post-Colonial Literatures are encouraged, but we welcome any specialization that complements the existing faculty.

The King Professor is appointed to an initial five-year term, which is renewable. Ongoing scholarship and service are expected.
