Theatre Arts: Tenure-Track, Assistant Professor
Theatre Arts – Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Theatre History to fill a full-time, tenure track position beginning August 2017. Augustana College is a selective liberal arts college of approximately 2,500 students, most of whom live on a wooded 115-acre campus. Rock Island, Illinois, is part of the Illinois-Iowa Quad Cities along the Mississippi River, a diverse metropolitan area with 400,000 residents, located about three hours west of Chicago and 45 minutes east of Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa.
Candidates for this position are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to interdisciplinary education and the teaching of theatre as a liberal art. Specific responsibilities include teaching at least one section of Introduction to Theatre, two courses in Theatre History, and one section of Dramaturgical Research. The candidate will also be required to direct one production each season. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach in Augustana’s interdisciplinary programs, particularly, First Year Inquiry and Women and Gender Studies. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in theatre history and have a strong research agenda in the field.
