Faculty Position in Thermal and Fluid Sciences - Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position in the area of thermal and fluid sciences, with an anticipated starting date of August 1, 2017 or thereafter. The position will be at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels, but appointment to Full Professor may be considered for candidate with an excellent track record in scholarship and education, recognition from the research community, and the promise of future distinction.

Founded in 1826, Case Western Reserve University is a private research university located in Cleveland, Ohio. The site of the famous Michelson-Morley interferometer experiment, the university is associated with 16 Nobel laureates. The Case School of Engineering actively promotes interdisciplinary research collaboration through university-level institutes primarily focused on materials, health care, and energy.  The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is home to 15 tenured/tenure-track faculty, over 100 graduate students and 350 undergraduate students. It has a renowned history of scholarly activities that have pushed the frontiers of mechanical and aerospace engineering, from space exploration to robotics. In recent years, the faculty have successfully engaged in scholarly and cutting-edge research across a broad spectrum of classical and emerging fields, including biologically inspired robotics, biomechanics, nanomaterials, sensors and data analytics, additive and cyber-manufacturing, impact and shock phenomena in solids, energy storage, microgravity fluids, fire engineering, etc.  

We seek an outstanding scholar who demonstrates a clear vision and plan to successfully establish an internationally-recognized, competitively-funded research program that is rooted in the fundamentals of thermal and fluid sciences and explores innovative applications. A doctorate in Mechanical, Aerospace or a closely related Science/Engineering field is required.  In addition, the successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to the core undergraduate and graduate teaching missions of the department, and to engage in departmental, institutional, and professional service activities.
