Description of Position
Under the direction of the Dean, Technology Services the Microcomputer Specialist will be responsible for the installation, configuration and component repair of microcomputers. The Microcomputer Specialist will also troubleshoot microcomputer failures on and off the network; install and configure district approved software on microcomputers, oversee help-desk duties and operator duties on district file servers; and, perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to:
two years college-level course work including courses in information systems and
three years of computer maintenance experience.

Licenses and Other Requirements
Valid California driver's license.
An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias

Representative Duties
Schedule, participate in and assign work activities to department Microcomputer Technicians to assure that the District's computer hardware and software are operating efficiently.
Troubleshoot equipment failures including running diagnostic software where appropriate, visually inspecting various computer parts, and determining the most efficient course of action to place the failed unit back on line.
Install new microcomputers at various locations.
Install peripheral equipment (printers, scanners, etc.).
Maintain campus microcomputer inventory.
Answer microcomputer–related questions over the phone.
Operate data processing equipment to include printers, scanners, decollaters and bursters.
Install and configure interface cards, memory, mother boards and other components of a microcomputer.
Installation and Maintenance of Student Accessible computers in Academic Labs.
Create user accounts on district file servers.
Train others as required.
Master and support new software and hardware products.
Utilize the District's integrated software in performing the required duties of the position.
Stay current regarding technical advances in the field by reading trade journals, technological books and manuals for hardware/software; attends conferences, workshops and meetings.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Office and computer room environment.
Subject to constant interruptions.
Ability to operate a computer and office equipment.
Ability to communicate clearly to provide information over the telephone and in person.
Ability to communicate with students/employees/public.
Ability to read documents.
Ability to sit and stand for extended period of time.
Ability to reach in all directions.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Frequently exposed to the risks of computer-generated video radiation and other hazards associated with working computers.

Conditions of Employment
Salary is at Range 35 AA ($18.58 hourly / $3,221 monthly). Initial placement on Step AA.
Salary increase after 6 months of satisfactory service; increases annually thereafter.
Minimum 5% increase if promoted.
10–working month probationary period.
Union membership upon employment.
PERS Retirement.

Employee life insurance ($100,000) is provided.
