Duties: We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join a research program focused on deciphering the genetic basis for human adaptive traits with a core focus on human skin. Applying a highly interdisciplinary approach that combines developmental biology with genetics and genomics, research in the Kamberov lab is focused on understanding the development, regeneration and evolution of human skin appendages, namely sweat glands and hair follicles. The position provides an exciting opportunity to work at the interface of basic and translational research in a collaborative and stimulating environment, and gain experience in a diverse set of technical approaches at the cutting edge of evolutionary and developmental biology.

Research Specialist A: Under the supervision of the PI, the research specialist is expected to carry out the daily activities of the laboratory, which include maintenance of an extensive mouse colony, as well perform a wide range of experimental techniques involving routine molecular biology, biochemistry, tissue histology, and cell culture. In addition, the specialist will also order supplies and maintain equipment for the laboratory.

The Research Specialist B will undertake the duties outlined for the Research Specialist A position, with the additional expectation that the candidate will work more independently and participate in developing novel solutions to research efforts. The candidate is expected to have greater laboratory research and mouse work experience that the grade A specialist. Depending on performance, skill level and interest, the grade B specialist may be asked to also undertake an independent research project.

Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications: * B.S. or B.A. and 0-1 year of work experience in a research or related setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
* Sound independent judgment and competence in research methodologies.
* Previous laboratory experience in molecular biology, genetics, and/or mouse husbandry is preferred.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
* Ability to multi-task, think critically and work independently.
* Good interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills. Demonstrates the ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, and can clearly write about and present their work.
* Two year commitment is strongly preferred.
