Responsibilities:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work on a new NIH-funded project related to fluorescence detection and enumeration of rare circulating tumor cell populations in vivo. The candidate will contribute primarily to optical instrument design, construction, and validation, and should have experience with laser optics, fluorescence spectroscopy, fiber optics and molecular imaging. The candidate will perform basic or applied research of a limited scope, primarily using existing theories and methods. Assists the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of results and grants. Maintains the laboratory and may exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete. The appointment generally does not extend beyond two years.

Qualifications:

The candidate should have a PhD degree in biomedical or electrical engineering, physics, or related fields. This candidate should have a strong background in optical instrument development, particularly for biomedical applications. Experience in fluorescence sensing and imaging, fluorescence mediated tomography (FMT) diffuse optical tomography (DOT), near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), and related applications are preferred. Experience with basic circuit design is also an asset, as well as experience with biomedical signal processing and image reconstruction algorithms. Experience in programming such as MATLAB/C/C++ is also an asset. Good writing and communication skills are required. The candidate is expected to be highly creative and self-motivated in the research and is capable of working in a collaborative environment.
