Duties: A full-time position for a Research Specialist A is available in the Laboratory for Cognition and Neural Stimulation (LCNS) in the Department of Neurology, under the direction of Dr. H. Branch Coslett. Current research topics include investigations of language and communication disorders, body representation, motor control and mechanisms of neuroplasticity in healthy adults and patients with neurologic diseases. The principle methodologies of the laboratory are transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). These tools are used to explore structure-function relationships in the brain that pertain to cognition, investigate behaviorally relevant neuroplasticity in the adult intact or damaged brain, and develop stimulation-based neurorehabilitation therapies.
The Research Specialist A will administer and interpret cognitive tests to patients and healthy controls. S/he will perform statistical analyses using SPSS, SAS, R or equivalent statistical analysis package. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining, submitting and amending IRB protocols. Assist supervisor with literature search and manuscript preparation.

Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in psychology, linguistics, cognitive sciences, natural sciences, or biomedical engineering and 0 to 1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Knowledge of statistics and psychological research methods, strong organizational ability, and excellent communication skills are required. IRB experience desired. Prior experience with noninvasive brain stimulation, neuroimaging, and interaction with patient populations is highly valued but not required.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree in psychology, psycholinguistics, or cognitive neuroscience with minimum 1-year prior research experience. Knowledge of advanced statistics and research methods, demonstrated organizational and communication skills working in cognitive science research. Prior experience submitting, amending and managing IRB protocols highly desired. Experience administering standardized neuropsychological tests desired. Ability to work independently and to adjust to rapidly changing needs of primary investigator and senior researchers.
