Primary Function of Organization Unit: The mission of the Office of College Advancement (CA) is to enhance, promote, and support the academic programs, research and extension efforts of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. CA is comprised of three primary divisions: Development, Alumni and Friends, and College Relations. Within CA are the NC Agricultural Foundation, Inc. and the NC Tobacco Foundation, Inc. non-profit, 501(c)3 organizations formed as a means of supporting agricultural research, extension, and teaching activities in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University.

Essential Job Duties: This position is responsible for providing leadership for directing private fund raising for the Department of Crop Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at NC State. The Director of Development's responsibility is to identify, cultivate and solicit gifts of $25,000+ from individuals, alumni, corporations and foundations to support the Department of Crop Science. The position is part of the CALS College Advancement team with a direct report to the Assistant Dean, College Advancement and programmatic/project reporting to the Department Head, Crop Science. This position will serve as the primary development liaison between the Department and CALS College Advancement. The position will be charged with the following duties: * Identify, qualify and manage a portfolio of 100-130 donors/prospects. * Provide stewardship and manage relationships with donors and prospects. * Conduct an increasing number (up to 150) of personal visits with prospects and donors per year, and participate in a minimum of 15-20 - solicitations per year. * Gain a comprehensive understanding of the priorities of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Department of Crop Science. * Develop and implement immediate and long-range plans for enhancing the image of, and expanding major gift support for the Department. * Serve as the chief staff liaison between the Department of Crop Science and external constituents, stakeholders, e.g. alumni, friends, corporations, foundations.

Minimum Education/Experience: * Bachelor's degree required. * 3+ years of professional experience in fundraising.

Department Required Skills: * Proven experience in evaluating, qualifying and moving prospect through the cultivation/solicitation cycle. * Experience working with 6- and 7- figure gifts. * Highly motivated self-starter with strong skills in identifying potential prospects, developing relationship with prospects and donors, and in closing gifts. * Must have strong organizational and prioritization skills.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Master's degree preferred. * Background and/or experience and knowledge of agriculture.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: * A valid North Carolina driver's license or the ability to obtain within 60 days of start is required and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
