Writing Center Coordinator

Position Summary: Under administrative direction, the Writing Center Coordinator's primary responsibility is to help all GSU students become better writers. The Coordinator must have in depth knowledge of composition and writing center theories, the ability to hire, train, motivate, and evaluate proficient writing consultants/tutors, implement assessment plans to measure the success of Writing Center services and use assessment results to improve support services provided by the Writing Center. The Coordinator is expected to create and develop procedures and practices that enhance student learning, market services to students and faculty, implement and evaluate programs for expanding services, and collaborate with various units within the University, including faculty and academic support professionals, to provide specialized writing support in general education and upper division coursework, as well at the graduate level of study. The Writing Center Coordinator will also have an affiliated faculty appointment in the English department and teach up to three courses per year.
Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree in Rhetoric/Composition, Writing, English, English Education, or related field; knowledge of composition theory and Writing Center theory and the ways it relates to all Writing Center work as well as the development of courses; ability to develop Writing Center goals, methods, and approaches to learning outcomes and convey these to new writing tutors; ability to formulate student learning outcomes and develop assessment plans to track and compile statistical data, both numerically and in narrative form.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, Writing, English or English Education
Work Schedule: This position is a 37 1/2 hour work week, some week nights and occasional Saturday work will be required; the individual will teach up to three writing courses per year.
