Duties: Penn Libraries seeks a dynamic, innovative Assistant Director to shape the strategic direction of the Penn Libraries Research Annex (LIBRA) located in West Deptford, New Jersey and guide the strategic initiatives within the seven libraries of the Directorate, and in the Penn Libraries robust suite of access services, resource sharing and delivery initiatives. These include the innovative BorrowDirect and EZBorrow book borrowing services, RAPID ILL, WorldCat Resource Sharing, NLM s Docline service, FacultyExpress delivery services, and the provision of research materials to Penn scholars distant from campus. Under the direction of the Director of Logistics and Access Services, the Assistant Director for Patron Services will be responsible for all aspects of operations, and services including, recruitment, training, and supervision of Access Services and Resource Sharing staff at the Van Pelt-Dietrich Library Center and public and technical processing staff at LIBRA; assessing needs and deploying computer and scanning hardware and software; coordinating delivery of materials to LIBRA and to campus; processing of transfers from campus libraries to LIBRA; developing and managing new services at LIBRA to support Penn scholars research and access to materials.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited program and a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in an academic research library or equivalent combination of education and experience

Extensive supervisory experience of support staff is required, preferably in a collective bargaining agreement environment

Demonstrated collaborative and organizational strength, and excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills

Strong customer service orientation

Extensive experience with library management systems, including cataloging, inventory control, request management systems, and patron initiated services

A demonstrated commitment to quality control, process improvement, analytical skills, and the use of metrics, statistics, and other evidence based management tools

Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in technology tools for enhancing services, improving service performance, and implementing new service initiatives in an academic research library

Experience with budget management and financial systems is preferred

Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and active involvement in professional activities.
