RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: The person in this position will work with the PI for the majority of his responsibilities to design and carry out animal experiments. He/she will also be expected to carry out basic molecular and cellular biology procedures including RNA isolation, qPCR, protein isolation and Western Blot. The person will also be responsible for maintaining multiple mouse lines, including breeding and genotyping, as well as overseeing animal experiments. Since the focus of the PI's research is circadian biology--some experiments will require performing and monitoring experiments at times outside the usual hours of operation (9am-5pm). The overall working hours and schedule is flexible based on the experimental needs. Minimal cell culture work is expected to be part of the job. Based on the experiments involved, he/she will also be responsible for data analysis and present data to the PI and other lab members at lab meetings. Credit for authorship may be claimed from resulting manuscripts and scientific abstracts based on the effort in projects. The PI is a physician-scientist and the translational nature of the project would be a great opportunity for those seeking to build a career in biomedical research or medicine. This would an excellent opportunity for those seeking admission to medical school or taking time off prior to residency applications.
