Founded in 1834 as a female seminary, Wheaton College became coeducational in 1987 after more than 150 years as a leading educational institution for women. In less than a decade, Wheaton students have won more than 30 prestigious national scholarships for their academic accomplishments, including 3 Rhodes, the British Marshall, Goldwater, 4 Trumans, 21 Fulbrights, 3 Rotary Ambassadorial scholarships, 2 Udalls, 2 James Madison Fellowships and an American Council for International Education scholarship. The awards have allowed them to study in countries such as New Zealand, Great Britain, Mexico, China, Taiwan, Iceland, Zambia and Korea.
